Diabetic Symptoms - What To Look For
Diabetes is a disease wherein the body is not able to produce, or cannot properly utilize the hormone called insulin. Insulin is needed by the body to convert starch, sugar, and other food into energy as needed for life’s daily activities.
Diabetes is a big health concern, and for some, will even prove to be fatal. The diabetic symptoms are very common, and may not seem harmful at all. This lack of concern for what seem like minor symptoms may lead the disease to to undiagnosed.
To further understand the disease and what its tell-tale signs are, here is the list along with a brief explanation of each:
Frequent Urination - A person with diabetes will notice that they need to go to the restroom quite often. Frequently enough so as not to be normal. On average, a person may use the bathroom 3 to 6 times a day. A greater frequency that remains consistent for any length of time, should be spoken about with a doctor.
Excessive Thirst - If your need for water, or any other drink, exceeds what is normally considered necessary for you, this may be a diabetic symptom.
Extreme Hunger - Just like extreme thirst, a person with diabetes may also feel extreme hunger. They might even feel hungry right after having a good, hearty meal. Should you feel this way more than once a day, monitor yourself for a week or so. You might have diabetes and not know it.
Unusual Weight Loss - If you are not dieting, or cutting back on your meals, but are losing a considerable amount of weight, there could be a problem. Try to monitor the food you eat and the exercise you do each day, if applicable. It should be proportional to the weight you lose. Otherwise, you might need to visit your doctor as this could be a diabetic symptom.
Increased Fatigue - The feeling of tiredness is very apparent for a person with diabetes. There could even be instances where they would become very tired even after minimal activity. More so, should the activity be a strenuous one. Do not assume that it is just your age or that you are not in good shape. Better to check with your physician as to the cause.
Irritability - A person with diabetes may grow more irritable by the minute. This is due to the feeling of something unsettled in the body that they can’t quite recognize. Being irritable is not always a mental state. It can be physical as well.
Blurry Vision - Blurry vision may be attributed to many factors, not only diabetes. But, should you feel that your eyes are becoming weaker by the minute, coupled with one or two of the above mentioned symptoms, and your blurred vision may in fact be a diabetic symptom. The only way to be sure is to visit your physician.
Diabetes is referred to as a silent killer. The reason for this is quite simple. The diabetic symptoms listed here are so ordinary you won’t think that you may have diabetes. So, the lesson here is; do not take even the most common symptom for granted. It may very well be a diabetic symptom
